In the beginning major and independent record labels competed with one another and both enjoyed a certain amount of success. In recent years, that has changed. It has become more about the bottom line – what will sell fast and furious, never mind quality and longevity – and not so much about the music. Wonderment Records' first objective is to provide the country music fan with the best music and product we can. The bottom line will take care of itself if the music is what it’s supposed to be, “great.” Wonderment Records goal, “to ensure the creation, production and promotion of great country music.” The consensus at Wonderment Records is that country music takes in a lot of territory. Our definition of country music is traditional music with a cowboy attitude and just the right amount of western and honky tonk flavor added to the mix. Country music IS NOT contemporary country or "pop" as some of the major label bean counters would have you believe. We have a saying at Wonderment Records that if it sounds traditional, it's probably country; if it sounds western, it's probably country; if it sounds honky tonk, it's probably country; if it sounds pop, then it probably ain't country. In fact it's not even close! Good country music takes in a lot of styles and sounds, like the great Hank Williams, Hank Snow, George Jones, Randy Travis, Travis Tritt, Royal Wade Kimes, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Roy Rogers, Sons of the Pioneers and many others. It does not, however, have any resemblence to the pop world you hear from so often. Wonderment Records stands as a sentinel at the door of traditonal country music in the defense of and advancement of the genre. |
